HOW TO CHOOSE A PHOTOGRAPHER

 

The most important thing to consider when choosing a photographer is their style. Do you like the photos you see on their website? Each session will vary somewhat and have its own look based on the weather, location, clothing worn, and the client's unique personality, but most of the time the images will still have a distinct look to them that is representative of that photographer's style. Are the images light and bright or a little more dark and moody? Do the images appear to be heavily edited, not edited at all, or somewhere in between? The use of lighting, composition, and editing style all play a part in the final look.

 

I never get offended if someone prefers a different style than what I offer. I have personally used different photographers for family portraits over the years based on the vibe I was looking for at the time. Even if you are someone I know, that doesn't mean I am the best fit for what you are looking for based on style, budget, availability, or other factors. Making sure you like the photographer's style is the best way to ensure you will be happy with your images, and I definitely want you to be happy!

 

Another consideration is what the photographer offers in terms of image quantity, shooting time, and the process they use for booking and ordering. Some will require an in-person session to discuss pricing and have in-person ordering sessions after to choose your images and products. Some list pricing up front and include all of the digital files as part of the session fee. Some clients love the in-person approach to booking and ordering, but as a busy mom myself with very busy kids, I strive to offer the simplest process to save time and stress. All prices are included on this website and all digital files are included with a print release. I am absolutely available to assist in ordering any professional prints and products!

 

 

ABOUT MY STYLE

 

The images I create will look consistent in style to what you see here on my website. Most often I am looking for the best light. I like to get a mix of traditional portraits and some images with more movement and different expressions. My images are usually not prop-heavy as I like to focus on the subject. I supply props and accessories for newborns, but I feel that props for seniors and kids should be personal to them. Especially for seniors, I do encourage incorporating some special items that reflect who you are at this time in your life.

 

Some of the magic of the photo happens in the editing stage. Each image will be hand edited for the best colors and quality. I prefer classic, clean editing with optimized colors that still look natural. I do not use heavy filters. One of my favorite parts of a shoot is loading up the images on my computer and bringing them to life on my screen. It is the final piece to creating beautiful and memorable pictures.

 

WHAT TO EXPECT

 

After you fill out the contact form or email me, we will discuss a date and answer any initial questions you may have. Your session is officially booked once the deposit is paid and contract is signed. Prior to your session, we will plan out the details such as location, times, clothing, and other ideas to customize your session. Feel free to contact me at any time if you have questions!

 

Outdoor portraits will usually be in the evenings. We will cover all of the ideas we discussed and probably throw in some extra ideas too. I strive to under-promise and over-deliver and I will often capture more images than the minimum promised in your package. Sometimes the images that are my favorites are not the same as the images that are the client's favorites, so I will usually deliver extras if I have them.

 

Within 2 weeks of your session date, I will send you a link to a password-protected online gallery where you can view, share and download all of your images. I do not require an in-person ordering session since you will have all of your images available for download, but I do offer a wide variety of professional prints, products and custom albums to showcase your images. I firmly believe that your images should be printed and displayed, and a custom album is one of the best ways to enjoy your images for years to come!
